But if we had to choose one acoustic guitar to last us the rest of our lives, at a push we'd probably opt for the Martin D-28 (opens in new tab). Putting together 'best of' lists is always a blast because every guitar we present is, in its own way, truly brilliant.
Of course, we've also scoured the web to find the best prices, saving you any legwork in that department, too. Our choices are presented in price order so you can easily find the right one for your budget. With entry-level acoustics from the likes of Epiphone, Yamaha, Martin, and Taylor, through to high-end heavyweights from Gibson and Fender, we've got you covered.
(Or even look for a similar 4-to-1 pedal – I’m talking with the project producer about adding a Portuguese cavaquinho for a couple of songs.) Am still hoping to find for a cheaper alternative.Whatever your budget - and playing style - we guarantee one of these top acoustic guitars will be perfect for you, and this guide is here to help you pick your favorite. My thought right now is to go ahead and buy either the Lehle or the Palmer. Another manufacturer, Palmer, makes the Trinity Instrument Selector Pedal has the same foot stomping/guitar switching and input channel gain control as the Lehle. It’s just expensive or, as they say here in central Minnesota, spendy. Midi aspects aside, the Lehle 3-to-1 Instrument Switcher combines the elements I need – channel switching stompbox & input channel gain control. (Morley’s Tripler has a boost for all 3 channels but no individual channel controls – and I’ve already got a boost (which is useful) built into the Fishman preamp – and, as LizardKinged notes, the Tripler is really designed for running a single guitar into multiple amps not my challenge.) The Morley ABC won’t allow me to do this. Set gain per channel before the gig starts so I’ve got the same non-boost playing volume on all guitars.(I’m on the stage and visible, but I’m not the main attraction the singer-songwriter/storyteller/Billboard charting guy is the focus & I’m only there to support him.) I need to be able to switch guitars quickly and quietly. Foot switch/stomp between the 3 guitars.Run all 3 guitars through a single switching device > Fishman preamp with boost, tuner, etc + effect pedals > the Board.
Let me see if I can pull the pieces together. The Challenge: My current music project has me shifting a lot between 3 differently-tuned guitars when I play live. Yah, Rich, I guess I’m not being clear – altho my thinking has indeed changed as I’ve learned more from this thread. If Boss makes a 3-way pedal I'd buy that in a heartbeat, but I don't see that online.ĭoes anyone have experience with this Morley pedal? Is it quiet? Work well? Are there other/better 3-way switching pedals? I looked around and either Sweetwater or my local shop can get me a Morley ABC 3-way switching pedal. It sounded awesome! So now am thinking maybe all I need is a 3-way switch. (Performing for an audience has a wonderful way of focusing the mind.) At first I started looking at a separate chain of pedals for the Breedlove BUT then checked out a YouTube video with Ed Gerhardt playing a Breedlove with an >undersaddle< p/u and the same Fishman Analog Preamp I'm already using for the open tuned/mag p/u guitars. The trio played its first gig at a theater last Saturday and I realized the other guitar, the one in standard tuning - a Breedlove dread with an LR Baggs undersaddle p/u, could use some enhancement especially a boost but maybe more tone coloring. The Boss pedal is completely quiet, it runs the LED off the signal - no battery - so I can see which guitar is "On." I use the Boss AB pedal to switch between the 2 guitars and I LOVE it. Right now I've got both open tuned guitars (both of which are equipped with magnetic soundhole p/us) running through the same setup = Boss AB-2 > Fishman Analog Platinum Preamp/Boost/Tuner/EQ/Compression/Etc > cheap overdrive pedal then to the board. I'm the primary guitar for the project fingerpicking, strumming, playing lead and slide. This works well for minimizing retunings during shows. For a trio project I'm playing 3 ac-el guitars - one in standard & dropped, and the others kept in different open tunings.
